Rosenthal + Zerfoss =

Roze

Over the years, we have spent countless hours in the car. During that time we have talked about various topics, including: World War I, religion, stonks, why Bill Belichick didn’t play Malcolm Butler in the ’17 Super Bowl, etc. We like to think everything through.

Years ago, we started talking about marriage and what a wedding for us would look like. There are customs and traditions associated with these milestones. But after all, ♫ “the good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.”

We started looking into why, traditionally, women have taken their husband’s last name. This tradition dates back to Old English property law. When the couple married, the man would obtain a shiny new piece of property: his wife!

Thankfully, we declared our independence from England in 1776.

We grow up with our last names. They are a part of our identity. Last names symbolize family, and the creation of our own family is what we are about to embark on (even if it is just us and our plants, and maybe some goats).

At the end of these conversations, we decided to combine our last names. We will be the Roze family.

After all, Zerfoss-Rosenthal is too long to put on the back of a jersey.
